Qualifications:

• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology
• Licensed in the State of Michigan

Professional Responsibilities:

• Address client’s aspects of performance to support engagement in fluency of expression that affects health, well-being, and life quality
• Select and adapt the appropriate per-case speech treatment model, method, and approach to direct the process of interventions
• Apply interventions to maximize child’s ability to be successful in phonemic awareness
• Teach clients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
• Empowering children with phonological skills and strategies
• Enhancing vocabulary and auditory processing abilities
• Apply techniques with infant feeding difficulty
• Apply interventions to improve swallowing and oral motor skills for improved feeding
• Guide and educate family members and caregivers
• Observe, note, and report on progress of long- and short-term treatment goals
• Collect data and document processes following appointment

Professional Skills:

• Proven working experience as an SLP
• Experience with pediatrics in clinical setting
• Experience in sensory theory and treatment
• Experience in oral motor interventions
• Excellent knowledge of principles and practices of speech pathology
• Familiarity with therapy assessment
• Hands-on experience with computer programs and creative media

Job Summary:

The IBCLC/lactation consultant (LC) is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. The IBCLC demonstrates specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding/chest-feeding and human lactation. As an integral member of the health care team, the IBCLC functions within the scope of practice as defined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and follows standards of practice as defined by their professional association, International Lactation Consultant Association, and adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines of care.

Qualifications:

• Maintain current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
• Licensed in state of Michigan (if a nurse practitioner, PT, or OT)
• Completion of lactation consultant (LC) training program

Professional Responsibilities:

• Provide lactation assessment, management, education, and instruction
• Perform consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone interviews/screening, and prenatal education as appropriate
• Offer post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chest feeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
• Coordinate and manage care for patients, including those with complex needs
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, being always an advocate for the patient
• Evaluate patient’s response to care and initiate independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate
• Plan, organize, and deliver lactation management services to all breastfeeding patients
• Participate appropriately in communication and decision-making activities of the lactation and maternity services
• Effective in planning and running parent support groups
• Collaborate with all members of the health care team incorporating evidence-based practices to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate lactation and breastfeeding problems and to suggest treatment approaches and outcomes
• Develop, evaluate, and revise policies and procedures related to lactation and breastfeeding

Professional Skills

• Prior experience as a lactation consultant (preferred)
• Demonstrate ability to lead, organize, manage, and develop lactation programs (preferred)
